This set of guided notes covers the concepts of translations, reflections, rotations, congruent figures, dilations and similarity transformations. Guided notes are perfect for whole group and small group instruction, independent work and extra practice.

  • identify and name vectors
  • write rules for translations
  • perform translations on figures given vectors and rules
  • perform compositions
  • review the x-and y-axis
  • review the difference between lines like "x=2" and "y=2"
  • reflect images over horizontal and vertical lines, the x-and y-axis, y=x and y=-x
  • discover rules for reflecting over the x-and y-axis as well as y=x and y=-x
  • discover rules for rotating figures 90°, 180° and 270° counterclockwise and clockwise about the origin
  • discover congruence between counterclockwise and clockwise rotations (ex: 90° clockwise is the same as 270° counterclockwise)
  • practice rotating images in the coordinate plane
  • understand the difference between congruent and non-congruent figures
  • determine which figures are congruent as well as the transformation that occurred to create the congruent figure
  • perform dilations on figures in the coordinate plane that are both enlargements and reductions
  • discover what happens when a scale factor is negative
  • perform dilations on figures with negative scale factors
  • complete similarity transformations involving a translation and dilation
