Description
Are you ready for some fun with transformations?
Do your students already have a good background knowledge for rotations and you want to explore how far they can extend that knowledge?
Explore Rotations using this partner challenge to test the skills of your students after introducing rotations. Students will work as partners to help describe rotated images to a partner who can't see the image. The student must determine what degree measure an image has been turned and what direction just with the assistance of descriptive vocabulary from their partner.
My students loved the challenge. Some learned to use synonyms for clockwise and counter clockwise (NO--NO words in this challenge). Also some began to use hand motions to mimic the degree measure of rotation. It was a fun way to kick off our study of transformation rotations before we discussed "general rules".
A Google link is provided to access the partner challenge.
Four rounds of play are included starting with simple picture rotations then increasing the difficulty by placing figures on a coordinate plan and taking pictures away all together and providing ordered pairs only. The challenge can be as competitive as you would like to make it, but regardless, your students will be engaged and ready for learning.
