Description

The Using Transition Words Unit targets Common Core Writing Standards in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade specifically. In the zip file, you will find the Using Transition Words Documents which comes with a student learning map (anchor chart), lesson worksheets with answer keys, and a quiz. There is a PowerPoint slideshow that will direct each of the five lessons. Also in the zip file, you will see a Transition Word Vocabulary Matching Game PDF which goes with lesson 1 of the unit.
All lessons begin with an Opening. This is usually a video clip link. The work session includes direct instruction, modeling, guided practice as well as independent practice. Pause the slide show as students work on the independent practice. When most or all have completed the independent practice, simply begin the slideshow again and review the answers with the class. Lesson 1 has a Find My Mistake Activity on the PowerPoint for the Closing Activity, while Lessons 2-5 have writing activities that ask students to apply what they have learned. As always, it is important to review the slideshow before you begin this unit.
Below you will find the materials needed for each lesson.
