This is a useful way to introduce the function of transitional words and phrases in writing. I made sure to go over the top few boxes that list words that I encourage the students to adapt. The lower part was the opportunity for the students to write sentences that used those particular words.

I have also used this as a brief beginning of the term assessment to gauge how independent my students are with reading directions and applying their understanding.
