Description

The inspiration for this product came from working with students who struggled to convert word problems to mathematical expressions. I personally believe that this skill is important, especially when highlighting the link between academic mathematics and real-world mathematics. Improving the ability to translate between worded phrases/problems and mathematical expressions/equations can increase students' confidence in mathematics - a subject that can be intimidating for many.

This product features 5 worksheets that increase in complexity:

1. Numeric Translations (Words to numbers & operations) - Level I

2. Numeric Translations (Words to numbers & operations) - Level II

3. Algebraic Translations (Words to numbers, variables, & operations) - Level I

4. Algebraic Translations (Words to numbers, variables, & operations) - Level II

5. Lost in Translation (Identifying and Correcting Misinterpretations)

All 5 activities have answer keys provided.

These worksheets were not designed to stand alone. It is intended that they be used as supplemental to your existing lesson material, extra credit work, review activities, brush-up activities, or small-group study material.
