Description

Students will learn how to translate between verbal descriptions and algebraic expressions.

The first page of this file is guided notes where students list keywords related to four operations: add, subtract, multiply, and divide. (For example, the words "sum," "more," and "increase" probably indicate addition.) The notes include examples for each operation.

The second page gives students practice matching expressions to verbal descriptions and writing expressions based on a verbal description.

Common Core Standard(s):
A-SSE.1 Interpret expressions that represent a quantity in terms of its context.

An answer key is included for the notes and practice.

This was a great resource. I love that it was a word document - I used it as a template to create additional notes for keywords for exponents and grouping parenthesis. Guided notes really help my students.
