The Translation, Reflection Rotation and Cartesian Plane Test can be used as a test or an assignment to assess your students' understanding of the Cartesian plane and Transformations. In this test the outcomes that are addressed (concerning translations, reflections, rotations and the Cartesian plane etc.) are as follows:
-label the x and y axes and origin of a Cartesian plane
-identify points on a Cartesian plane
-plot points on a Cartesian plane
-create a design and identify the coordinates used to make the design
-identify the coordinates of vertices of a 2-D shape
-use/draw a translation, a reflection and a rotation
-describe the image resulting from a transformation
- describe the movement of a point on the Cartesian plane, using the terms horizontal and vertical
- determine the horizontal and vertical distance between two points
-describe how vertices of a 2-D shape change position when they are transformed one or more times
This Cartesian plane and Transformation test contains 15 questions that address all of the outcomes above. Students have to plot points, identify points, draw translations, reflections and rotations, label their vertices, the x axis and y axis, as well as the origin etc. However, you can modify questions easily to eliminate any outcomes that you do not wish to assess.
The solutions are included with the Translation, Reflection Rotation and Cartesian Plane Test. For those questions that have multiple answers, I have included an example to go by and I've listed the question values for the test.
This assessment can be used with a variety of grades, easily adapted, used all at once, or as 3 small assignments. #1 - 13 would be one small assignment, #14 and #15 are more complex and therefore each alone, could be a small assignment.
