Description
As a career exploration teacher, I am often required to teach careers and areas that are not my expertise. This was how I felt about the Transportation cluster. I wanted to teach it and make it fun, but my own knowledge was very limited. So I made this exciting Transportation Cluster Escape Room!
This Escape Room requires no prep, though it’s a good idea for the teacher to watch the videos that accompany it when they are about to teach it for the first time. The Escape Room is entirely in a spreadsheet, and can be done in either Excel or Google Sheets. Students start in the "Transportation Operations" room where they solve puzzles about different careers and incomes within that pathway. Once they have solved the puzzles, they will get the code to the next room, “Logistics” where there are new puzzles to solve involving careers in that pathway. There are seven pathway rooms total: Transportation Operations, Logistics & Planning, Warehousing, Facility & Mobile Equipment, Infrastructure Planning, Health Safety & Environment, and Sales and Service.
As students unlock each room, the score sheet will reflect how they have done, making this a quick grade for the teacher. The score sheet can be printed or turned in digitally. This assignment can be completed in room order, or students can enter the password on the score sheet to go out of order. It can be a quick one-day activity where students explore one or two pathways of most interest to them, or an entire week, with a different pathway each day. Students tend to do better when they work in groups of 2-3 kids and help each other solve it. This escape room would be fun for older grades as well, who may complete it a bit quicker than younger kids.
No knowledge of spreadsheets is required for this assignment, and by the time they are done, the students will know a bit more about each of the seven pathways in the Transportation, Distribution & Logistics Cluster!
Download includes:
- Silent video key that demonstrates how to do the entire escape room
- Teacher printable key
- Teacher key in Excel and Google Sheets
- Student Escape Room in Excel
- Student Escape Room link in Google Sheets
- Student instruction video (great for at home learners, absent students, or if you have a sub)
- Three video clips in MP4 format
**NOTE - When you download, please make sure to open the Google version by clicking on the link provided that forces a copy. DO NOT open the Excel version in Google--it will not work the same. If for some reason the link isn't working for you, it is also available in the teacher notes document.
**NOTE - This assignment is not yet classroom tested, as it's the summer! If you see any errors that are not working, feel free to contact me at mrsfunnybusiness@gmail.com so I can fix them. If any errors are fixed after you have purchased, you will get an email alert so you can re-download.
