    ✨ Perfect for independent learners. ✨

    Coding is not the end goal... THINKING IS! This is a complete programming course for beginner programmers. It is also ideal for students who have programming experience but never used Turing before. It not only teaches kids how to code, but also to THINK! The twelve units are progressive, building on each other to the final project in unit 12. (Read the preview for more information.)

    Turing's Coding Capabilities

    Turing is a programming language that was written for kids which makes it ideal as a first language. Its syntax is simple which means it is easy to understand. It also has an extensive GUI library so that students can use widgets such as colour, draw commands, buttons, sprites, and arrow keyboard control. It supports bmp/jpg and wav/mp3 files so students can create highly complex yet fun programs by the end of the course. If you have a mixture of kids in your class at varying coding levels this programming language is perfect! Kids who are familiar with another language will be at the same level as the kids who have never coded before.

    Differentiated Instruction

    There are also several projects which incorporate differentiated instruction. Each student gets their own problem to solve which encourages transfer of knowledge as well as independent thinking.

    Units 6, 8, 10 and 12 also provide a wide variety of problems ranging from easy to extremely hard so the teacher can determine the most appropriate problem for each student.

    Word Problem Projects & Program Design

    Program design is an important part of programming - especially today. Most courses concentrate on coding and ignore this completely. Program design and planning have been built into this course. Students are required to have plans approved before using a computer.

    Rubrics/Marking Schemes

    Every assessment and test has a marking scheme or rubric.

    KICA Rubrics/Marking Schemes

    Every assessment/test also has an alternate rubric known as KICA. This marking scheme has been broken down into 4 categories: Knowledge, Thinking/Inquiry, Communication and Application. This aligns with the Ontario, Canada curriculum guidelines.

    Exit Ticket/Culminating Activity

    Every unit that has a test also has an exit ticket before the test so students have the opportunity to thoroughly explore the commands and concepts they have been working on. (Units: 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, and 9)


    Six of the twelve units end with a written test. There are four slightly different versions of every test, so there are multiple ways to deliver them. (Units: 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, and 9)

    Editable Activities, Assessments, Word Problems and Tests

    Everything in this course comes with an editable version. This means you can use the original as your exemplar to create a new version for the next class! Did someone miss a test? No problem! Quickly modify a test for that student.

    English UK or English US?

    Turing's commands are in both so you don't have to worry! This makes it a great language for beginners.

    Materials have also been modified in English (UK) where necessary.
