MASTER LONG DIVISION WITH PRINTABLES DESIGNED BY AN EXPERT TUTOR

Long division is hard! Many people struggle with this aspect of math because it is so different from how we do long addition, subtraction, and multiplication! So, I always tell my students that if they're having a hard time--it's because their brain is WORKING! I have a degree in psychology and child learning, so I like to tell parents, teachers, and students about how our brains are wired to see patterns. Our brains are so powerful that they can even try to make predictions based on past patterns! This works and helps us learn a lot of things, most of the time. However, with long division, it makes things a bit harder!

First of all, long division is read BACKWARDS! We read books, memes, and most other math problems from left to right...but with long division? Right to left! How silly! Usually, when solving a math problem, you solve from the right to the left...but not in long division! You solve from left to right! If that wasn't sufficiently confusing enough, consider that long division involves two steps: multiplication and subtraction...(but not...division)! Furthermore, the process of solving a long division problem involves your eye and hand moving in a circular motion rather than merely vertically or horizontally! Lastly, you put your answer ON TOP! We never do that in math!

I say all of this to make you feel a bit better about having a hard time with long division. Really, it's *not YOU* it's LONG DIVISION! With a little bit of practice, you can train your mind to learn a new pattern, and soon enough, you'll be solving long-division problems like a PRO without even thinking about it! To develop that skill and help students wire their brains to follow the circular pattern of solving long division problems, I created these printable downloadable pdfs! They guide the student's hands and eyes until the process feels natural! Once the skill is mastered, the printable will no longer be needed (until your next child needs it)!
