Description

This sample activity will give you and idea of what the full size activities are like. Full size activities have 18 problems, while this sample has 6.

Find the full size activities HERE.

There are three different versions of this activity included in this file.

1. Scavenger Hunt: This is a whole class activity. Print the “Scavenger Hunt” pages and place around your classroom. Give each student a copy of the answer sheets. Students will start at any problem and solve it on their answer sheet. They will then look for the answer on a different sheet. Once they find it, they solve the problem on that sheet. The students continue this until they have completed all the problems and return to their original sheet.

2. Problem Train: This activity is just like a scavenger hunt, except that it can be completed in a small group or individually. Print the “Problem Train” pages back-to-back and cut out each card. Give each students a copy of the answer sheet and each group a set of the 18 cards. Students begin by placing all the cards answer-side-up on their work surface. The group flips over one card to see the problem. They all work on this problem simultaneously, helping each other as needed. Once finished, they look for the answer on the remaining cards. After they find it, they flip that card over to reveal the next problem. Students will continue this until they have gone through all the cards. The last problem will lead the students back to their first card.

3. Digital Problem Train: This activity is identical to the physical problem train, except it is completed on a computer. For this activity, you send your students a link to create a copy of the google sheet. Students will click and drag the cards in order so that each answer follows the corresponding problem. Once the students are finished, they type the letters in order to see if they are the correct. The Google Sheet will give them feedback on whether they are complete.

The best part of using the digital problem train is the feedback. Students will type the letters in order in the google sheet, and if they are correct it will let them know.
