Description
Types of Sampling Matching – Collaborative Card Sort Activity
Get students thinking critically about how data is actually collected!
In Types of Sampling Matching, students analyze real-world scenarios and decode the clues to determine which sampling method was used. Each scenario is printed on a card, and students work together to place it under the correct column heading:
- Simple Random Sample
- Stratified Random Sample
- Cluster Random Sample
- Systematic Sample
- Sample of Convenience
- Voluntary Response Sample
This activity is designed for partners or small groups (2–3 students) to encourage discussion, reasoning, and deeper understanding. Instead of guessing, students must justify their thinking and defend their choices using evidence from the scenario.
What’s Included: ✔ Scenario matching cards
✔ Sampling method header cards
✔ Print-and-laminate format for long-term use
Perfect for stations, review days, or formative assessment, this hands-on activity strengthens critical thinking skills and helps students apply sampling concepts to real-life situations in a meaningful way.
