Description

This is a PowerPoint that is used as notes for understanding percents and the idea that it is a ratio out of 100. These notes are structured with a do now, and objective followed by scaffolded examples and practice questions. This presentation includes vocabulary, percentages using models, and comparing ratios by finding the percentage of a value from real life word problems. These notes align with the EnVisions Math textbook for topic 6, lesson 1 but can be used separately as well!

Once you have downloaded this product, you will be able to completely customize your presentation to fit your needs. Depending on your technology platform, the words shown in the thumbnails above do not look perfectly aligned, that is because I make everything in my google drive then export it to Power Point prior to uploading here. I can assure you, once downloaded this file, the words and slides are well structured and organized! (Although, you can customize to your liking anyway!)

Understand the concept of a ratio and use ratio language to describe a ratio relationship between two quantities. For example, “The ratio of wings to beaks in the bird house at the zoo was 2:1, because for every 2 wings there was 1 beak.” “For every vote candidate A received, candidate C received nearly three votes.”
Use ratio and rate reasoning to solve real-world and mathematical problems, e.g., by reasoning about tables of equivalent ratios, tape diagrams, double number line diagrams, or equations.
Find a percent of a quantity as a rate per 100 (e.g., 30% of a quantity means 30/100 times the quantity); solve problems involving finding the whole, given a part and the percent.
