Understand Similar Figures | EDITABLE Guided Notes | 8th Grade Math
Share

Description

This resource guides students through understanding similar figures using transformations, including dilations, to determine when two figures are similar. Students explore how sequences of transformations map one figure onto another while maintaining proportional relationships.

What’s Included:

  • Guided notes for Topic 6-7: Understand Similar Figures
  • 3 scaffolded examples on:
    • Understanding similarity using transformations
    • Completing a similarity transformation
    • Identifying similar figures using coordinate rules

  • Matching “Try It!” practice problems
  • Word problems and space for reasoning and explanation
  • Full answer key included for teacher support or student self-check
  • Editable Canva template included so you can adapt it as needed

Curriculum Connection:

  • Directly aligned to the Savvas enVision Mathematics (8th Grade) Topic 6-7
  • Helps students identify and justify similarity using sequences of transformations and scale factors

Perfect for:

  • Interactive Notebooks (INBs)
  • Guided lessons
  • Scaffolded support before assessments or projects
  • Review of similarity and transformations

Teacher Tip: Print at 75% to fit perfectly into composition notebooks for INBs!

Planning to bundle this? Yup! This is part of a growing collection of guided notes aligned to the enVision 8th Grade curriculum—perfect for yearlong support!

So helpful!

My district is requiring me to teach using the Envision workbooks, and my students were really struggling to grasp the concepts. Since all of the examples are already filled in, there isn’t much space for students to actually work through problems themselves. These note sheets were an absolute lifesaver and a huge time saver for me. My students are understanding concepts so much better now. Maddie is also incredibly helpful and genuinely wants to support teachers. 10/10 would recommend!
