Description

Children (and adults) have a difficult time with emotions. Many children have trouble recognizing how they are feeling and often think they are bad or wrong for feeling certain ways. Some kids get taken over by their emotions, and other try to shun negative emotions all together, neither of which is healthy.

This PowerPoint is mindfulness-based and is aimed at getting children first to recognize their emotions and how it makes their bodies and minds feel and then to understand that positive and negative emotions are necessary and healthy, and that all emotions are fleeting and will come and go.

Overview PowerPoint

•Begins by explaining the nature of emotions: they come, stay for a while and make you feel a certain way, then leave.

•Emphasizes that all emotions can be normal and healthy, even if we don't like them.

•Introduces several different emotions with short interactive activities

•Students read a story and try to determine how a the character would be feeling

•Students are taught that learning to understand your emotions is a great talent to have, and they can all learn to do it with practice

•Students practice recognizing how their minds and bodies feel when certain emotions happen, with interactive portions and many visuals.

Mac-friendly version included (PowerPoint still required). This PowerPoint has no audio.

Thanks!

This is a fabulous resource for reviewing emotions with kids. It also gave them a chance to express their feelings about the situation surrounding the pandemic and have these feelings validated.
