Here is a complete lesson on teaching elementary students about motion, including the concepts of speed, velocity, acceleration, and momentum. Included in this lesson are TWO versions of the same reading passage. Both are exactly the same, except in their layout. One is a mini-book, a foldable, complete with instructions as to how to fold it. We like to keep these in our science notebooks, tucked into envelopes glued into our notebooks. For those students who have trouble with folding, there is also a regular reading passage that can be copied front to back.
There are also 3 worksheets and one 10 question quiz to accompany this lesson – one for vocabulary, one for comprehension, and one for calculating speed. In addition, I have included 8 word wall cards and a vocabulary foldable that can be cut and folded for notes, either to be kept in an interactive notebook or in their binders. (We have used gallon ziploc bags in the past to keep foldables safe!)
