Description
The Unit 1 (Learning & Memory) Project is the summative assessment for the 1st unit of my introductory Neuroscience course. It is intended to replace a summative exam for this unit.
This version of the project is open-ended. Students are given the particular learning objectives from the unit, and told to demonstrate their understanding of them via a final product of their choice. Students are given ideas of products to create, but ultimately, the final product is up to them. This gives students more ownership of their work and it increases equity among all students because it allows them to access their own personal funds of knowledge while demonstrating their mastery of the unit.
This type of project may require some scaffolding for students who have executive functioning differences or anxiety, particularly those who presently struggle with task-initiation. Please refer to my store for scaffolded resources to support this project.
I am both a trained neuroscientist and a teacher. I love learning about the brain and helping my students learn how to apply it to their lives! The neuroscience content of this course is simplified to make just the most important concepts accessible to high school aged students. The difficulty level for this course is appropriate for students who have never taken a Neuroscience course before.
