Description

NEW for 2018!

This unit bundles NOTES, student-centered ACTIVITIES, practice HOMEWORK questions, and a unit REVIEW for the following topics:

1. Fraction and Decimal Conversions (5.NF.B.3)

2. Mixed Number and Improper Fraction Conversions (4.NF.B.3C)

3. Prime Factorization & Simplifying Fractions (4.OA.B.4, 5.NF.B.4, 6.RP.A.3)

4. GCF & LCM (5.NBT.B.7, 6.NS.B.4)

CONTENT HIGHLIGHTS:

This unit paves the way for operations with fractions. Foundational skills necessary for dealing with mixed numbers and improper fractions, as well as approaching fractions from several perspectives (ex. their decimal form) is essential to understanding operations with fractions addressed later in the curriculum. The use of prime factorization to simplify fractions is also used in conjunction with Venn diagrams as an alternative to the listing methods of find the greatest common factor (GCF) and least common multiple (LCM) of two or more numbers. Likewise, the prime factorization method used to simplify fractions helps to explain cross simplification used when multiplying fractions, in future units. Here are some additional highlights:

NOTES: Engaging, colorful, interactive and include word banks.

ACTIVITIES: Engaging and meaningful. Help your students understand the “why” of what they are doing.

HOMEWORK: The practice is non-intimidating & differentiated, allowing for space to show work on the sheet. Each question addresses a different aspect of the objective. Students will see basic questions and word problems all in one assignment.

VIDEOS: Practice pages with embedded QR codes include help videos! Your students can now get help on their homework at any time, without the need for passwords or logins. These videos provide the reasoning, work and answers for every question. Provide your students with the differentiated support that your homework assignments have been missing! Your parents will love them too.

KEYS: Color coded answer keys with work! Answers are shown in red and the work in various other colors, designed to quickly find answers while simultaneously allowing students to figure out where they went wrong. The answer keys also provide excellent examples of how to communicate mathematical thinking.

LICENSING: The license for this unit is intended for use in a single class. Please purchase additional licenses, at a discount, for additional classes.
