Description
This activity can be done in groups, pairs, or individually. I use it as a station when we are working on unit conversion. Other stations will include similar activities involving linear measurement, volume, and area.
Students will be given a set of 14 cards. 7 of them have a subject (ex: human, car, turtle...) and the other 7 have a speed in various units (ex: 211 ft/min, 80.47 km/hr, ...) Students will first match the speeds with the subject they think it corresponds with. After they record their matches, they will be given a unit conversion chart. They must convert all speeds to 1 unit so that they can compare them accurately. Students will then re-match the speeds with the subjects and record their choices. After they check their answers, they will write a reflection on the activity discussing questions provided.
The activity includes: Cards to print out, teacher instructions, student instructions, Activity worksheet, answer sheet
