Description
This activity is a project based assessment activity that has students research prices of donut shops and compare them to one another. You can either pick the 4 donut shops & give them information or pamphlets for the donut shops, or you can let them research the costs online. I made sure that there were prices for 4 different shops in our area that they could use and recommended, but I did allow them creative freedom as some of them wanted to compare a place they went a few towns over or that is their fav on vacation.
The students do not need prior knowledge of rates or unit rates. You can discuss the definitions and differences at the beginning of class and have them write the definitions for them. They will need to know about percent of change in order to answer those questions. If you haven’t covered that, you can omit those questions.
I did this the day after I covered these two topics and the students responded great to it.
