Description

8th Grade Math - Unit Rate as Slope Lesson

This is a COMPREHENSIVE unit for teaching students the related 8th Grade COMMON CORE STATE STANDARDS. ABSOLUTELY NO PREP REQUIRED, just download and start teaching in minutes.

Students will be instructed on the main vocabulary terms in the lesson

•Rate of Change

•Slope

•Unit Rates

Students will learn how Unit Rates, Slope and Constant of Proportionality within a proportional relationship are all the exact same thing. This will allow students to display these connections using tables, equations and graphs. Students will follow these steps:

  1. Make a table to model the situation
  2. Draw a graph and graph the points
  3. Determine the slope. Remember, the slope and the unit rate are equal

Students will then use this skill to compare and contrast different proportional relationships using Unit Rate and Slope

  1. Display the data as a table, graph or equation
  2. Determine the Slope/Unit Rate of each proportional relationship
  3. Compare the Unit Rates
