WHAT YOU’LL RECEIVE

Teaching unit rate equations, particularly when fractions are involved, can turn into a math drill “beat-down.” This kit helps students visualize applications through videos, vibrant photos and word problems and draws them into an interactive scene.

• Bellringer – Students visualize themselves at the farmers’ market.
Simple unit rate challenge is presented through photo and word problem.

• PowerPoint & Videos – A PowerPoint presentation, filled with photos and two videos, sets a scene for an upcoming party. Students plan some of the party food. Then, they must alter the recipe to accommodate a changing number of guests. Step by step instructions are provided for four unit rate problems. Fun videos and student interaction engage students, connect the skill to a real-life application, and keep the lesson flowing.

• Worksheet – Students are challenged to take what they have learned and apply the method to various situations involving proportional unit rates.
