Description
All you need are rulers, these easy-to-use data sheets and a United States atlas of individual state maps for New Mexico, Utah, Iowa, and Oklahoma for this lesson!
Whole Class: Use one map to practice measuring distances between cities together. Points to emphasize:
• Shortest distance between two cities is straight line, but not all interstates and roads are straight!
• Check map scales for each state, size of states vary and scale could change
Small Group/Individual: Use remaining three maps to assign the same state map to group, or different state maps to each group member. Group members can trade and re-measure before checking actual distances on a website or app.
Use as a learning center too!

This is one skill that students do not learn anymore so I was excited to find these workskeets.
It's a great resource to introduce measuring distance with on a map!
Thanks!
It seemed like a great resource, but I realized pretty quickly that my students were not ready for it. Maybe I'll try it again in the future!
Great resource!!
Nice
