This lesson allows students to apply their understanding of ratio, simplifying, and part-to-whole relationships through challenging them to replicate a lost, ancient paint formula - perfect for developing ratio fluency through clear explanations, thought-provoking challenges and engaging real-life scenarios.
Knowledge and Skills Covered:
💡 Knowledge:
- I know that a ratio compares the size of one part to another part, whereas a fraction compares a part to the whole.
- I know that multiplicative relationships are used to find equivalent ratios.
- I know that the total number of parts in a ratio is found by adding the individual terms together.
✍️ Skills:
- I can use the "for every..." sentence stem to describe the relationship between two quantities.
- I can use a bar model to solve problems where I am given the total quantity or the value of just one part.
- I can simplify ratios to their lowest terms by finding common factors.
