Description
This is a fun and easy-to-prep math center activity! Using models to develop student understanding is a powerful teaching strategy. This math center activity uses models to help students multiply decimals by whole numbers. This helps students retain understanding better than just teaching them “the rule” for multiplying decimals. Additionally, state standards like Common Core and TEKS require student understanding and application of math models.
This math center activity is perfect for 5th grade students before they begin multiplying decimals using the standard algorithm. To use this activity, students will match the animals on the cards to the animals on their recording sheet. Students must use the information given on the card to fill out the corresponding row on the recording sheet. Students will need supplies to color some of the models in order to complete this activity.
A recording sheet and an answer key are included. For full product details, please see the product preview.

Great resource aligned with the standard I am teaching.
This was the prefect resource to add to our multiplying decimals unit!
It's great!
I loved how clear and easy to use this resource was.
My students LOVED using this resource to practice modeling multiplying decimals by whole numbers. They remained engaged throughout the entire activity.
My students LOVED this! The visuals were fun (and not too babyish), the problems were challenging (but not too challenging) and the ability to work in partners helped the students stay engaged while learning. I loved it!
Great resource
