Description
This is TWO sets of 24 task cards (48 cards total) designed to give kids practice using a proportion to solve problems involving a variety of rates. Each rate is presented on 2 cards with each giving a different approach to the rate. Each of the 24 card sets are available in separate listings for $3 per set.
I teach above level 5th grade math, and I created the first set of task cards for their first real practice with applying rates in problem solving situations. I realized that the kids were having trouble with problems that involved halves (either in the ratio, or involving a rate that isn't a multiple of the number presented in the question). Then I designed the second set (Set A) specifically to give kids practice with halves and some trickier rates to interpret.
I made several copies of the cards (I printed this set at half-size) and had the kids work with partners to solve the questions. There were definitely a few challenging cards. I walked around and sat with different teams to talk through some of the problems as they worked. I was impressed with the level of mathematical discussion the cards brought out in kids.
This is a 16-page PDF file that consists of 12 pages of task cards (4 per page), two different 1-page recording sheets with partially completed proportions, and two corresponding 1-page answer keys.

Great! Thanks!
I've used these multiple times now and they are helping my kids learn how to solve rate problems. Thank you!

Students enjoyed this activity!
Great resource!
So wonderful! Challenging problems for my EC resource students but yet they stayed engaged and motivated! Thanks!
