Description

VC & CVC Decoding Trials – Progress Monitoring (FREE)

This VC & CVC Decoding Probe is a no-prep, structured literacy resource designed to support early sound-by-sound blending and phonics progress monitoring for emerging readers.

It provides a predictable, repeatable format that allows teachers to assess decoding accuracy over time while reducing cognitive load for students with dyslexia or other reading difficulties.

Purpose:

  • Monitor progress in VC and CVC word decoding
  • Assess phonological and orthographic processing
  • Support explicit, multisensory phonics instruction
  • Collect objective data aligned to IEP reading goals

The same word list is used across trials to ensure that growth reflects improvements in decoding skills, not changes in word difficulty.

What’s Included:

✔ VC & CVC decoding probe
✔ Consistent format for repeated trials (Q1–Q4)
✔ Easy-to-score layout for progress monitoring
✔ Dyslexia-friendly, print-friendly design

Best For:

  • Students with dyslexia
  • Special education and intervention settings
  • Structured literacy / Orton-Gillingham–aligned instruction
  • IEP-aligned progress monitoring

Grades 1–3 | Special Education | Intervention

Need more trials for progress monitoring?

The VC & CVC Decoding Trials resource includes 4 structured trials, making it easy to track student decoding growth across multiple opportunities.
