Aligned to the Math Florida Standards

Lesson standard focus:
MAFS.6.NS.2.3 Fluently add, subtract, multiply, and divide multi-digit decimals using the standard algorithm for each operation.

This is a student centered lesson that can be used in a variety of ways: project-based, guided groups, gifted extension, assessment.


• The students will plan a vacation for their group members. They must use all operations with decimals as well as compare decimals.
• Students will add, subtract, multiply, and divide decimals.
• Students will choose a location, meal plan, lodging plan, and attractions.
• Students will evaluate the total cost and cost per person (for items and all)
• Students will provide a rationale for their choosing specific items and how they can apply their knowledge to a real-life situation.
