Description
This is a collection of activities I have used and modified over the last 15 years. The kids love doing the project and there are many great math topics being reviewed and/or introduced, too.
In Part 1, the teacher gives a bag of conversation hearts to a group of students and the group does activities involving prediction, data collection, sharing data, discussing how sample size can affect the type of results you get, and making a bar graph. In Part 2, students work with the data to write equivalent fractions, decimals and percentages for various samples. In Part 3, students can create pie graphs with their percentages and put their projects together in final form.
I have put together teacher directions and student pages leading the groups through the project.
