Preparation

- Print the student pages, staple or sort them in a folder, and your students are set to go.

- Have the video hook ready for viewing at the start of the lesson on an IWB, iPad, or computer monitor screen.

- Digital option: Make digital copies of the Google Slides before assigning to Google Classroom. Students will need to be in 'edit' mode to enter answers.

Math Skills Required to Unlock Clues

Students must use their math skills to unlock clues that will help them narrow down a list of suspects to find the Valentine Villain!

  • Clue 1 Worksheet: Adding three 1-Digit Numbers
  • Clue 2 Worksheet: Subtracting 1-Digit (1-5 only) from 2-Digit (Less than 50) Numbers (No Regrouping)

I had an easter version and my prior students loved it, so I decided to try a Valentine's Day version. It did not disappoint. My students were completely engaged in solving the 'crime'. The made guesses and then updated them as their guess was eliminated. Great skill review, teamwork, and inferencing practice!
