A Valentines Day activity for students learning about operations with radicals. This activity is also ideal for a review for students who have already taken Algebra I. Students refine their skills dealing with radicals but also their inductive reasoning skills, as the pieces will only work out in one manner.
This puzzles contain operations with radical problems in the form of a 4 x 4 grid where students match up the simplified expression to the original expression. Operations include addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Five versions of the puzzle are included to allow for differentiation amongst ability groups. The puzzles differ in the number of graphics and not the individual problems. As the number of graphics increases, so does the difficulty. Roman numerals are also included in the middle of the pieces so that a teacher can quickly check if the student is correct.
Your purchase includes a PDF file of the puzzle. Although it isn't necessary for use, it is recommended you print the puzzle on cardstock and have it laminated prior to cutting it out so it can last for years to come. Be sure to cut the puzzles prior to passing them out to students as they also serve as the answer key. The preview file allows you to view what the puzzles look like but only allow you to see half the puzzles. We are confident that once you try one of these puzzles as review or practice that your students will be hooked on them!. Especially if you make it a competition amongst groups!
