Each year on November 11, we stop to pay tribute to our
veterans. The Department of Veterans’ Affairs provides
services and benefits for these men and women. Their
motto is: “To care for him who shall have borne the
battle and for his widow and orphan”. This was adopted
in 1959. If the year is 2012, about how long ago
was the motto adopted?

Example of More Challenging Question

The tomb contains the remains of soldiers from
various wars and is guarded 365 days a year by the
3rd United States Infantry. How many days is the
tomb guarded during a 5 year period?

My school is departmentalized and I teach math and science. I wanted to incorporate Veteran's Day, because of how important it is, but it is difficult for math. These cards were perfect! ! I loved how they students learned more about Veteran's Day and some of the questions led to questions about different wars and opened up some good discussion. Thank you for a great resource.
