Description
This activity challenges middle school students to think like engineers and design a model drone that addresses a specific problem in their community. Inspired by Keller Rinaudo, the co-founder of Zipline, students apply their creativity and problem-solving skills to develop practical solutions using drone technology.
Teachers introduce the concept of drones and their potential applications, highlighting the story of Keller Rinaudo. Students brainstorm problems in their community that drones could address and select one to focus on. They then design and construct a model of their drone, considering size, weight, payload, range, and safety features. After testing and evaluating their drone, students present their design and reflect on their learning experience.
