This assignment was created and used for my intro to construction classes during distance learning. Normally during this class we would have had students frame and build wall, but during distance learning we developed this assignment for students to virtually build a sample wall and to learn the basics of wall framing using a free online program called Sketch Up. We had over 400 students complete this assignment during distance learning and it worked AWESOME! Many, many hours of fine tuning went into this assignment and it worked great for kids to use! It really shows the basics of wall framing and explains keys terms and parts.

This assign takes students about 6 hours or 6 class periods to complete and goes step-by-step with instructional videos showing how to do every aspect of this assignment. The video instructions that are linked to each step are videos from my youtube account and are me teaching (voice only) all the skills necessary for students to independently complete this assignment with next to ZERO teacher help. We have also used this assignment during a regular class period for students who need a modified learning plan

This assignment walks students through all the basics including how to create an account and login into googlesketchup.com and start drawing. Note: This is one of the first assignments in our virtual construction drawing assignment series. This assignment works using the free sketchup.com link and works well on a chrome book or other devices. I have been a shop teacher for 20 years and this assignment worked great and made my life as a teacher easier. You would be disappointed!!
