Visual Addition Activity | Math Centers | Dyslexia | Manipulative

The Visual Addition Activity reaches students who learn better through visual and hands-on activities, including dyslexic and ADHD students. By using the worksheets, cards, and manipulatives included in this set, students can take addition from being a confusing abstract concept to a tangible reality, that they can see, feel, and control.

This product is designed to be engaging and colorful to create memorable connections between the concept of addition and written addition equations.

This activity has 3 parts: the worksheet page, the cards, and the manipulatives.

1. Give your students the worksheet you want them to learn, for example, if you want them to work on adding by 2 find the worksheet with 2+ on it.

2. Pick a deck of cards to use: trains, turtles, or apples. Grab the corresponding manipulatives too. (let's say they want apples)

3. Have students draw a card and write that number in the blank of the equation. (let's say they drew a 7)

4. Next, the student will put 2 apples in the first box and 7 apples in the second box on the sheet.

5. Now they will add all the apples together, by placing apples in the last box on the sheer (9) to get the answer, and then write the answer at the top of the page.

6. Lastly, have them say “2 + 7 = 9 out loud before moving on to a new card.
