Assess Working Memory & Information Processing
Purpose:
This activity is designed to determine how much numerical information a student can process and recall at one time using visual and auditory input. It is ideal for identifying strengths and needs related to working memory, attention, and processing skills.
What This Activity Targets:
- Visual processing of digits
- Auditory processing of digits
- Working memory
- Attention and recall
- Information processing capacity
How to Use – Visual Processing:
- Begin with 2 digits written out of order on an index card.
- Show the card to the student for a few seconds.
- Remove the card.
- Have the student repeat the numbers as accurately as possible.
- Complete four trials at the same digit level.
- If the student is successful, increase to 3 digits, 4 digits, and beyond as appropriate.
How to Use – Auditory Processing:
- Say two digits aloud, presented out of order.
- Have the student repeat the numbers back to you.
- Complete four trials at each digit level.
- Increase the number of digits when the task becomes easy.
