What is is visual schedule and how does it help?

A visual schedule uses pictures to communicate upcoming activities and tasks for children. Many children can benefit from the use of a visual schedule, because it provides structure and routine. A visual schedule prepares children for transitions, upcoming activities and changes to the schedule. By offering a visual representation of expectations and transitions, visual schedules can reduce sensory overload and problematic behavior.
