Description
These weekly reading logs you can use in your book clubs or guided reading groups, or use as an independent reading log. It’s a great way to hold your students accountable for their reading, and to monitor and check for comprehension. If you incorporate a “Thoughtful Log”, you could cut and paste these in students’ notebook.
During a book club meeting (or a guided reading group meeting), students can use their logs as a conversation piece to help guide their discussions along. The reading log isolates just one reading strategy. This helps you monitor students’ growth with this skill only, and zoom in on which area of the skill students need help with. Hopefully, you will notice an improvement in their responses to their reading, and a more thought provoking discussion during group meetings.
I only meet with my guided reading groups Monday through Thursday, and Fridays are assessment days. Therefore, I have reading logs for Monday through Thursday. I also made Monday through Friday reading logs, and reading logs with no days of the weeks mentioned on them.
