Practice Visualizing with The Memory String

The descriptive language used in this story along with its beautiful illustrations make it an excellent resource for a lesson on visualizing. Students will easily create mental images of the family searching for the lost buttons. They can also make connections to a time when they lost something they valued and what actions they took to look for their item.

The Memory String is a Guided Reading Level N, which is a third-grade reading level. As a result, this resource set has been aligned to the third grade Common Core State Standards and Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills.

This resource set can be used for whole group instruction to model how to ask questions while reading and for small group instruction to support students reading at or above a Guided Reading Level N.

This resource set includes the following:

  • Visualizing mini lesson complete with book summary, Link to What You Know questions, vocabulary words, student-friendly description of the comprehension strategy, and page-specific questions to guide instruction and/or student practice
  • Student practice page and answer key in English and Spanish
  • Reader's notebook prompt with optional Common Core "I Can" Statement
  • CCSS and TEKS alignment
