Description
This activity is a hands-on STEM learning activity. It has everything you need to run the project from start to finish other than a few common household materials for the lab! In this activity, students will learn about volcanoes and some basic physical science and chemistry principles that apply to them (chemical reactions, physical changes, and decomposition/catalyst reactions). They will use 3 different types of materials/reactions to simulate volcanic eruptions using everyday materials/items. Included in this resource is:
- A reading with pre-requisite information & comprehension questions
- Diagrams for the parts of a volcano
- Procedures
- Data table to record observations
- Reflection questions to analyze data
- Career Connections & Conclusion section
- Teacher Keys & materials lists
It comes in PDF and Google Docs versions so you can edit it to fit the needs of your class if you'd like! It does align to Project Lead the Way (PLTW), specifically the Science of Technology Gateway course; however, it can be used as an activity in ay classroom/curriculum!
