Description

This activity combines math and art to help students practice calculating volume.

In this project, students build a three-dimensional "sculpture" out of any materials they choose. Then, they calculate the volume by measuring each part of their sculpture and using appropriate formulas.

I have been amazed by the projects my 8th grade students have created for this assignment. The guidelines and rubric are included in the download. You will receive a PDF and an editable word document.

I require students to include a sphere, cone, and cylinder. I also require measurements to be taken in metric and imperial units, so they get experience with both. You can change or add to the requirements in the word document to fit your class.
