Description
These 52 Volume Task Cards provide practice with volume in a variety of ways and contain everything you need to teach the volume standards required by the Common Core Standards. The cards present volume tasks in different formats to provide multiple forms of practice to prepare for assessments. The activities are ensure students master and understand volume.
- Cards 1 – 6 ask students the definition of volume, how it is measured, and which unit of measurement is used to express the volume of prisms.
- Cards 7 – 18 ask students to count cubes to find volume, to match given volumes with pictorial representations, and to state volume in cubic centimeters. Students must compare shapes with the greatest and least volume.
- Cards 19 – 22 ask students to find the volume of rectangular prisms when a portion of the prism is not displayed.
- Cards 23 – 29 ask students to pair the prism with an equation that could represent it.
- Cards 30 – 34 ask students to use expressions to find volume of rectangular prisms, determine the dimensions with and without a visual representation when given the volume.
- Cards 35 – 38 are word problems accompanied by a visual of a rectangular prism that is partially filled. The word problems require students to determine the dimensions of length, width, and the bottom layer, and finally the total number of layers.
- Cards 39 – 41 are word problems without visual representations that ask students to compute volume given a one number measurement of a cube.
- Cards 42 – 45 ask students to find volume when the three dimensions are provided and when only area and one other dimension is provided.
- Cards 46 – 49 ask students to tell how many cubes it would take to fill, flattened two dimensional boxes (nets) of different sizes.
- Cards 50 – 52 ask students to find the total volume of combined shapes.
These cards are aligned to the Common Core Standards of: 4. MD. A. 2, 5.MD. C. 3, 5. MD. C. 4, 5. MD. C. 5, 6. G. A. 2
These task cards can be used in centers, RTI, bell ringer, whole class instruction or for enrichment. Add unit cubes to make activities interactive and hands-on. Answer Key and Student Answer Sheet included.
