Description

If you are teaching election theory through Discrete Math, Applied Math, or any other courses that has voting theory as a unit, this unit bundle is right for you! This unit covers the following and should take about 1 90-minute day to complete the lesson:

  1. An Introduction to Elections
  2. Plurality and Borda Count Methods
  3. Plurality-with-Elimination and Pairwise Comparisons Methods
  4. Fairness Criteria & Arrow's Impossibility Theorem

In addition to notes, each lesson besides Intro to Election includes a review sheet and "Quick Check" formative assessments that can be used as a quiz, exit ticket, or warm-up. There is a summative assessment at the end of the unit. Assessments are NOT editable and there is not a "study guide" at the end of the unit (although the Review sheets for each lesson may be used as study guides). Please see the preview to get a glimpse of the unit!

This was my first year teaching Discrete Math and Prob Stats. This resource was very helpful to me because I had to learn this first. It is designed to make each method very simple to understand and use.

I am using this resource to work with students who don’t like math very much. It has been a straight forward way to teach them the skill.

This bundle was a great resource for my students! I used this in an applied math course with seniors. I'll definitely use again! I did find a few minor errors that I wanted to pass along: Page 17 & Page 49: Plurality-with-Elimination &Pairwise Comparisons notes- Example 4 should say "remaining 28 votes go to candidate B" Page 26: Fairness Criteria Notes - Example 7 is missing preference table (it is on the answer key on Page 58) Page 27: Fairness Criteria Notes - Examples on this page should be Examples 8 through 13 (correct on key) rather than Examples 7 through 12 Page 51: Mixed Practice - All Methods - Example 12 d answer key should be "A, B, C, E, D" - last letter is wrong
