Description

Expository essay writing is a key component of most ELA curricula, and the compare-and-contrast essay is one with which students need to be familiar. This lesson aims to help them comprehend the planning which goes into such a compare-and-contrast essay.

This lesson will work well as part of a larger writing unit, or when studying writing. However, it would also be perfect as a one-off substitute lesson!

I sed the outline portion of this resource with my freshman English class. It set them up well for the first essay that they wrote in my class.

This lesson was put together very well. I felt that my students benefited from going over how to structure compare and contrast essays as sometimes they struggle with organization. Thanks!

We compared Night to When the Emperor was Divine. This sheet was fantastic for my students to outline their thoughts and synthesis the material. Wish there was a sample rubric though
