Description

This activity was made with the intention of teaching students with autism spectrum disorder and Down syndrome at the middle school & high school levels who have difficulties with understanding weather concepts, utilizing technology to access weather, and making daily decisions based on the weather. These students may have difficulties with receptive language, expressive language, problem-solving, and/or pragmatic language skills.

This unit includes the following concepts/skills:

- understanding what temperatures mean

- differentiating various temperatures and weather conditions

- deciding what clothing to wear to match the temperature and weather conditions

- using electronic devices to access the weather

- comparing the weather in various locations around the world

- defining various weather alerts and levels of severity (advisory vs watch vs warning)

- responding to weather alerts

- reading a weather forecast to make future plans

- learning the roles of a meteorologist and presenting the weather like a meteorologist

This unit includes 100 slides with teaching content and practice activities using the learned skills.
