Description

This is the perfect resource to get your students to write effective paragraphs week after week. The resource is an 8 page unit that walks students through the process of writing paragraphs on a day by day basis. Students are given a different task to complete on their paragraph Mon.-Fri. A key factor in this unit is CHOICE. Students get to choose their topics based on their own interests. Another key factor is creating authentic reasons for writing. Students have to state their 'author's purpose' - explain , inform, describe etc. This focuses students not just on paragraph writing but also on actual authentic writer's purposes for paragraph writing. Another key way this unit is different from other paragraphs resources is the way students are taught to revise their paragraphs. Unique tangible techniques are given for students in order to help them first with content revision (Wednesday) and grammar revision (Thursday). In addition - an advanced proof reading resource is attached for students to use once they become better at revising their paragraphs. Another way this resource is different is that it focuses earlier on in the week on vocabulary. Students are encouraged to build stronger vocabulary related to their topics with or without support before writing. Finally - the unit encourages adults (teachers or parents) to support the brainstorming stages of paragraph creation. This makes this a perfect resource for students to do for a weekly H/W activity. Finally, the publishing day (Friday) students are given 9 different options of how to publish their work. Many of these options include a tech integration option for publishing. The resource is designed in a way where teachers can use the same product week after week with classes as whole, centers, homework, support student work or advanced student work. The unit is differentiated in such a way that it is perfectly accessible to students from 2nd-5th or possible even struggling 6th graders. I have also left this as a word. doc so teachers can simply adapt parts of the resource if desired with absolute ease. You will not be disappointed by this purchase!

I didn't find this product to be very helpful. I was looking for a resource to teach paragraph writing on a one week cycle with repeating weeks of practice. I think I found something I could use for one day.

Sorry you didn't find the multiple ideas in the tic-tac-toe menu valuable or the multiple different graphic organizers for kids to brainstorm and develop their ideas. Or even the step-by-step processes from day today where students further enhance their drafts leading to multiple choices to publish. Thank you for your purchase.
