Weekly Wacky Writing

In my classroom, I do my best to instill a love for writing in my students. Although we have specific writing assignments all year, I love giving my students time in class each week to creative write. This is a no prep way to have your students writing every week!

I call it "Wacky Writing Wednesday" but you could have your students do it any day of the week! It's a special 20-25 minute time dedicated to writing. The students choose a new prompt each week and write away! I choose to collect their journals at the end of each quarter to read and grade. The students also receive new prompts at the beginning of every quarter. I love that this allows me to get to know my students and allow them to share different thoughts with me. I also allow students that would like to share their journals read an entry at the end of our 20 minute reading time. This is totally optional and only students that volunteer will share theirs. My students have their own dedicated writing journal and they glue in these papers as I hand them out.

This product includes:

  • Assignment sheet with directions and requirements.
  • 4 different writing prompt menus (each page has 15 prompt choices).
  • End of quarter rubric for the teacher to use to give credit for their writing.
