Description

What if Earth looked completely different in 10,000 years? How would animals evolve to survive in new biomes and ecosystems? In this engaging, inquiry-based project, students will apply their knowledge of evolution, natural selection, and adaptation to reimagine the future of a species in a drastically different environment!

What’s Included?

Student Work Packet – Step-by-step guide for researching and designing a new species

CRAPP Test Research Checklist – Ensures students use reliable sources
Current vs. Future Biome Research Organizer – Compare climate, food web, and survival challenges
Evolutionary Adaptations Planning Page – Helps students justify their species' new traits
Final Project Checklist & Rubric – Supports standards-based grading with a 3-point scale
Creative Poster Final Product – Students illustrate their species before and after evolution, labeling 5 key adaptations

Project Walkthrough:

Choose a species and a new environment (for example: a dolphin evolving to live in the Amazon rainforest or a camel adapting to the ocean).
Research & Compare the original and future biome (climate, food sources, predators, etc.).
Design & Explain 5 key adaptations that help the species survive and thrive in its new home.
Create a Poster with a before-and-after drawing of the species, featuring labeled adaptations.

Perfect For:

✔ Life science & biology units
✔ Evolution, natural selection, & adaptation lessons
✔ Project-based learning (PBL) & STEM integration
✔ Engaging, creative, and standards-aligned assessment
