Description
So simple, but so effective!
Challenge your students to create a specific, math-centered question based on any quantitative answer. For example, the answer is 46 cookies. What is the question? Or 125 elephants. Or 67 cents. You get the idea. Can be used for any operation, or a combination of them. Support, challenge, or enrichment; it's flexible enough to work with any type of student. Can be used for assessment of word problem solving ability or can be worked through together in a small group or one on one.
Do a sample together with the class, and then assign an answer or have a bank of answers to choose from. Students could even make posters, and use these sheets as their rough drafts!
Students create a story, question, equation, and then an illustration to represent the situation.
