Description
Animated Step-by-Steps® are animated PowerPoints designed to address literacy, language, AAC and a host of academic goals. Each page includes a series of animations. Read the text up to the star … click … and see an animation of what you just read. If you have purchased a symbol-supported version, the symbols will appear AFTER all the slide animations have been triggered. This strategy is designed to promote a 'literacy first' agenda and minimize visual clutter.
There are three versions of this resource (Regular, PCS, SymbolStix).
This is the Picture Communication Symbol Version (Tobii Dynavox)
This resource uses the song, Where is Thumbkin, to create an interactive forum for addressing receptive and expressive use of spatial words, e.g., in , on, under, beside, in front, behind.
Receptive Component:
Either a dog, Rover, or a cat, Clover is hidden in one of of 5 locations surrounding the dog house, e.g. in, on, beside, in front, behind. Students are instructed where the pet can be found .
Where is Rover/Clover (2X)
Here I am. (bark/meow) Here I am (bark/meow)
I am (in) the dog house (2X)
Come find me (2X).
Touching the correct target location reveals the hidden dog/cat who then barks/meows.
Touching an incorrect location produces the mildly negative response, " huhugh'.
Expressive Component:
Can be personalized with the printed names and photo faces of your students (instructions are provided)
When the page/slide opens a surprise printed name is inserted into the blank
Where is _____ (2X) (e.g. Joshua) This provides an opprortuity to guess the mystery name based on text alone.
Here I am (2X) The child's photo face appears in a target location.
I am ______ the dog house (2X). Three buttons appear indicating three location choices (e.g. in, on, under)
As you can see (2X)
Touching the correct target button inserts the text in the blank
Touching an incorrect button produces a mildly negative response, " huhugh'.
Where is _____? has been constructed to facilitate tele-practice. All responses are numbered. If numbers recognition is not an option, partner-assisted scanning is an alternate option.
This resource can be displayed on the 'big screen' (interactive whiteboard, large screen TV using Apple TV) or the 'small screen' (computer monitor, iPad/Android tablet or iPhone using the free Microsoft PowerPoint app, specific to each).
